Mari-Lee Baxter of Pompano Beach took the woman's marathon title in Sundays A1A Mrathon in Fort Lauderdale with a time of 3 hours and 24 minutes and 10 seconds. A1A Marathon winner too fast even for race escorts

The men's winner of the A1A Marathon, Antonio Sousa of Lisbon, Portugal, waited over 30 minutes after breaking the course record to have his moment of glory. Sousa was alone from mile 9 and paced ahead of the motorcycle escorts to cross the line before officials recognized he was finished

Runner uses A1A Marathon in Fort Lauderdale as tuneup for six-day marathon in Sahara Desert

The A1A marathon will start at 6 am on Sunday morning. Mandy Miller and Linda O'Brien will have already run the 26.2 mile course once that day in preparation for the 151 mile race in the Sahara.
