Mari-Lee Baxter of Pompano Beach took the woman's marathon title in Sundays A1A Mrathon in Fort Lauderdale with a time of 3 hours and 24 minutes and 10 seconds. Portugal's Antonio Sousa, vacationing in Florida, was first overall in the male category with course record time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 22 seconds.

The men's winner of the A1A Marathon, Antonio Sousa of Lisbon, Portugal, waited over 30 minutes after breaking the course record to have his moment of glory. Sousa was alone from mile 9 and paced ahead of the motorcycle escorts to cross the line before officials recognized he was finished

Erica Flaks of Boca Raton returned to competitive running -- and finished second among women -- at the 2009 A1A marathon, coming back from more than a year away due to injuries from a mugging.

The A1A marathon will start at 6 am on Sunday morning. Mandy Miller and Linda O'Brien will have already run the 26.2 mile course once that day in preparation for the 151 mile race in the Sahara.
