First-time marathoner, Erika Blattenberger, decided at the last minute to run the St. Louis race and then won it in a time of 3:09:13. On the men's side, James McGown of Nebraska won in a time of 2:26:24.

The first St. Louis Marathon was held in 1904 as part of that year's Olympic Games. The 1999 event was not held at all. Now, the city and approximately 1,100 runners are getting ready for the revived race.

Jerry Dunn continues his quest to run 17 official marathons and 183 solo 26.2 mile runs in 2000 - 200 in 2000 is his motto. The St. Louis marathon will be Dunn's 14th official race of the year as he continues on his quest.
