Don Fennessy began his long time volunteer career with Grandma's Marathon in 1980. Sadly the June 16, 2012 race will take place with Fennessy's expertise as he died Saturday from pancreatic cancer.

Grandma's Marathon has named Jeffrey Rosenthal, Jr., as director of race management services, a newly-created position within the organization. Rosenthal is responsible for support services during all Grandma's Marathon events, assisting with the planning and development of the organization's races and programs. He will coordinate volunteer efforts, as well as maintain and implement organizational safety strategies and protocols.

Dick Beardsley won the 1981 Grandma's Marathon with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 37 seconds and plans to run the 2012 Boston Marahon as part of the thirtieth anniversary of "Duel In The Son."
