Lyubov Denisova, 29, of Russia battled head winds and humidity, not to mention a strong field of elite women runners to take the female division of Saturday's Grandma's Marathon in Duluth MN. An orphan growing up in Russia, she used her late-mother's love of sports as inspiration and combined it with her own dedication to her daughter to power her to the finish.

Saul Mendoza took the wheelchair division of the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN, on Saturday, enjoying the cool temperature but battling a head wind that kept times slower than previous years. Tami Oudet also repeated for the women's wheelchair title. She was one of two women in the field, but spent much of the race with her world class racing husband. keeps this up, he's likely to join Tami Oothoudt in the Grandma's Marathon Hall of Fame.

Grandma's Marathon record holder Dick Beardsley took on the 25th anniversary race with no hope of beating his 2:09:37 1981 time. Instead, he hoped for beating three hours. Cheered all along the route and feeling the old competitive juices flowing, Beardsley finished in an impressive 2:55:39.
