Duluth, Minn.: Grandma's Marathon received confirmation from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) that Halina Karnatsevich, the 2006 women's division champion, tested positive for a banned substance at Grandma's Marathon on June 17. The positive test will result in the immediate disqualification of Karnatsevich from the race. The 36-year-old from Belarus will receive a two-year ban from competition.

Duluth, Minn.: Runners leaving the starting line at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon next spring will have an extra incentive as they begin their 13.1-mile journey. Race organizers are pleased to announce the addition of a prize money program for the 17th annual event. A total purse of $7,000 will be distributed to the top male and female runners with first-place finishers each receiving $1,000.
