Record number of runners sign on for Great Ocean Road Marathon

Event director John Craven said a record number of entries have been received for he 2008 Great Ocean Road Marathon exceeding last year's registration by over three hundred. Competitors from twelve countries would compete in the event, including seven Africans and an Argentinian.

Great Ocean Road marathon launch

The May 17th Great Ocean Road has already attracted over 1,000 participants for the four scheduled events including the inaugural marathon. The course will be run from Apollo Bay to Lorne and organizers are hoping for well over three thousand runners.

Kenyan marathon runner James Mugo Kariuki vows to return to Great Ocean Road Marathon

Despite threats and civil unrest in the Rift Valley of Kenya, Mugo Kariuki will return to the Great Ocean Road Marathon. Kariuki uses his prize money to care for orphans back in his African village. He won the 2006 race and finished second in 2007. A trio of Ethiopians stand in his way of claiming victory again.
