Chuck Engle run in Tupelo and finished in about 2 hours, 37 minutes, good enough to win his sixth Tupelo Marathon. Then, Engle finished 26.2 miles in 2:42:50, good enough to win Columbia’s 48th annual Heart of America Marathon by about six minutes.

The race’s challenges might offer one explanation for its low turnout. Heat, humidity and Boone County hills – particularly Easley, whose apex marks the marathon’s halfway point – have contributed to the course’s reputation, prompting many an aspiring marathoner to shop around for a more forgiving 26.2-mile route.

Chuck Engle won the Heart of America Marathon finishing ahead of 146 runners in 2 hours, 42 minutes and 50 seconds. This was the 108th marathon that Engle has finished and the second in two days.
