Sean Fenwick won the Leicester Marathon with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes and 38 seconds. The early race leader, Mark Powell, was forced to pull out of the marathon near mile 20 and was taken to the hospital.

The Leicester Marathon started and finished at Victoria Park on Sunday. Colin Cross took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend Nikki Coles. The two are now engaged.

The Leicester Marathon kicked off in 2006 after a twenty year hiatus. The 2009 edition has over one-thousand registered runners for the 26.2 mile race and more than two-thousand for the half-marathon.
