The 30th running of the Manitoba Marathon Events capped another record breaking year with over 13,100 participants finishing races on Father's Day. Shirley Lumb, race director, stated that this was the 9th consecutive year of record setting participation.

Dr. Davinder Jassal will examine 15 runners in the Manitoba Marathon after the marathon on Sunday. As soon as they cross the finish line, they'll be transported to St. Boniface Hospital to undergo MRI testing. Dr. Jassal is looking to see if there's any swelling or damage to the right side of the heart after they run the marathon. Previous studies have not used MRI. One at the Boston Marathon used ultrasound tests, while another in Manitoba used blood tests.

This Fathers Day Tom Podruchny will run his 100th marathon at the age of 71. He ran his first marathon in 1971 in Manitoba and will be the first Manitoban to reach the century mark in the marathon. When he did his first marathon, most of his relatives did not think he would live through it.
