The first Med-City Marathon was won by Todd Sperling on May 26, 1996 with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes and 16 seconds on a course that was very different than the course the this year's winner, Chuck Engle, won with a time of 2 hours 39 minutes and 16 seconds.

Chuck Engle is so passionate about marathon running that he got the tattoo to prove it. Engle, 28, runs a marathon most every weekend and sometimes two. Engle has done about 180 and Sunday was close to his 80th marathon victory

Heather Himler, Naperville Illinois, traveled to Rochester to visit relatives and won the Med-City Marathon in near record time of 2 hours 57 minutes and 39 seconds. She was the first woman in seven years to break the three hour barrier.

The 14th annual Med-City Marathon saw two new faces in the winners circle as Chuck Engle, Dublin Ohio, and Heather Himler, Naperville Illinois, won the men's and women's overall marathon titles respectively. It was Engle's and Himler's first time running the Med-City Marathon
