Mercedes Marathon Charts New Course

In an attempt to attract more participants, organizers of the Mercedes Marathon have redesigned the course for the 2004 edition of the race. The objective was to create an "easier, friendlier" course, and the changes include reducing the number of hills, and re-charting the course through more neighborhoods, so as to increase the number of spectators and general community involvement.

Running in city enjoys growth spurt as today's big race gets under way

The Birmingham Track Club is one of the biggest and most active track athletic clubs in the country, with over 800 members, and a big proposition to host the USA Men's Marathon Championships this year. Race director Valerie McClean has her responsibilities set for the next few years as she organizes the races scheduled to take place on the Birmingham track in the future.
