On the Saturday before Christmas, coach Anthony Sgherza stood in Forest Park and beheld his new team, six women from Queens and western Nassau County ranging in age from 38 to 49. The women had asked Sgherza, a professor of exercise science at Brooklyn College and an accomplished endurance athlete, to advise them in their preparations to run the More Marathon/Half Marathon in Central Park this Sunday.
