Napa Valley's Marathon last weekend attracted people of all shapes, sizes, races and ancestries who were all pleased with the race. Some of them included such Marathon greats as Steve Radigan and John Keston. Since there is no money to win in this race, elite runners dont participate, making it quite the pleasant atmosphere for an average runner.

Kenny Brown won the Napa Valley Marathon in 2 hours, 30 minutes, 12 seconds. He has had his mind set on winning this marathon ever since last year, when he was forced to forfeit due to muscle injuries. Although his time did not turn out to be a new PR for the Santa Rosa resident, he is happy of his prizes, with the first being the equivalent of his weight in fresh Napa Valley wine.

The Napa Valley Marathon had a smooth finish on Sunday afternoon, with clear skies and plenty of gatorade and refreshments left for runners. 2,200 people participated in the actual 26.2 mile event.

Despite a late start, Kenny Brown of Santa Rosa, Calif., maneuvered his way through the field and ran unchallenged after 10 miles Sunday to claim the 25th anniversary Napa Valley Marathon. Beverley Anderson-Abbs of Red Bluff, Calif., also was never pursued during the second half of the course from Calistoga to Vintage High School along the Silverado Trail. She won the women's division and was 36th overall in 2:59:10.
