The Mardi Gras Marathon offered a new course...

The 2008 New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon celebrated its forty-fourth running with a new course that took runners for the first time into the heart of the French Quarter down Bourbon Street, Rampart Street and St. Charles Avenue. 2005 and 2007 champion Meyer Friedman won the men's race in 2:25:52. Autumn Ray won the women's competition in 2:58:42.

New Orleans tourism on the rise

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina that devastated many parts of New Orleans, $1 billion has been pumped into its economy will high profile events such as the New Orleans Bowl, the Sugar Bowl and Bowl Championship Series football games, Mardi Gras and the NBA All-Star game and the Mardi Gras Marathon. A record number of over five thousand runners are expected for marathon.

New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon Extends On-Line Registration

The 2008 New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon has extended its online registration to midnight on February 13th. Take advantage of the discounted prices by registering today on active.com. Fees for the marathon are $90, half-marathon $45 and 5k $30. The marathon and half-marathon scheduled for February 24th both start at 7 a.m. with the 5k following at 7:10 a.m
