Confident Badza romps to marathon victory

As Shingirai Badza, a native of Zimbabwe, stood at the starting line of Sunday's fifth annual Casino Niagara International Marathon, he was sure of two things. First that he would surely win this race, and second that he would not finish under the bonus-worthy time of 2 hours and 12minutes. He was right on both counts. 2:27:53.5 got him first place over Stephane Gamache of Ottawa, but it did not get him the $10,000, which he casually claimed would have helped. Cindy Keeler won in the women’s race with a time of 2:50:18.3, and adding on to her list of athletic events she seems to be mastering these days.
