Female runners in this weekend's full marathon can breathe a sigh of relief as the women's title will be up for grabs with three-time winner Lori Buratto out of the race due to injury aggravated at the 2008 Boston Marathon. To top it off, the two best female runners from the 2007 Olympic Discovery Marathon have not registered for the 2008 race. In the men's race, 2006 champion and course record holder Preston Brashers returns.

Nearly 2,000 expected to run weekend marathon

Over sixteen hundred runners are registered for the various running events during the North Olympic Discovery Marathon weekend of which 1,070 are women and 608 are men. New to the North Olympic Discovery Marathon are the Olympic Medical Center 5K and 10K run.
