OC Marathon Ramps Up For 2011; Overall Entries Up 50 Percent While "Kids Run The Oc Program"On Pace For 50-Plus Schools And 3000 Kids

Entries for the 2011 OC Marathon, one of the premier "destination" races in Southern California, are 50 percent ahead of last year while the innovative "Kids Run the OC" program is on pace for a record number of schools (55) and kids (3000). The OC Marathon, held on Sunday, May 1, is considered as one of the best full and half marathon courses in the state due to its diverse terrain, changing vistas and a spectacular jog through the Upper Newport Bay Estuary. O.C.Marathon Could Ruffle A Few Endangered Feathers

City officials from Newport Beach are trying to reach an agreement to keep the course of the marathon in May which could disrupt the breeding season of an endangered bird.

A forty-six year-old man died after completing the OC half-marathon. Geoffrey Jonathon Chao passed away about and hour after collapsing at the finish line of the 13.1 mile race.
