The Ocean State Marathon, which has been contested annually in Rhode Island since 1993, will not be run in 2004 due, primarily, to declining entry field numbers and diminishing sponsorship revenue. Marathon organizers will present a half marathon.

he Cerrone Ocean State Marathon and Half Marathon will have a modest cash purse and a new beneficiary. 1000 each for the overall men's and women's division winners, $750 for second place $500 for third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth. If any of those finishers is a Rhode Island resident the prize will be doubled.

The 11th annual edition of Rhode Island's only full distance marathon on Sunday, October 12 at Providence will be run as the Cerrone Ocean State Marathon. The event, which includes an inaugural half marathon, was without title sponsorship since late last year. The Cerrone Auto Group is a dealership headquartered in Attleboro, MA.
