Leonard Vavra ran 97 marathons before he lost his leg to knee surgery complications. His friends and family put together the Crazy Leonard Relay, taking turns pushing his wheelchair through the marathon course in Omaha.

The average Omaha Marathon men's winner over the past five years was nearly 20 minutes slower than champions of the 1980s. Last year's winner, Todd Nott, ran 2:51:31, 35 minutes behind the event record and slower than six former women champions. Meanwhile, only one woman has broken three hours since 1995.

Tony Clark of Wichita was the men’s winner in a time of 2:47:28. The women’s winner was Tonya Janzen in a winning time of 3:22:40.
