Revamped marathon to provide more prize money, better runners

Defending champions Joseph Nderitu of Kenya and Sandy Jacobson of Edmonton will be chasing more money and possibly stiffer competition when they return for the 30th anniversary of the revamped National Capital Marathon in May 2004.

Ottawa Marathon increases 2004 Prize Pot

The biggest cash prize purse of any Canadian marathon just got bigger. The organizing committee of the 30th Ottawa Marathon today announced that the guaranteed prize purse for the race had increased to $96,000; raising what was already the country's highest cash prize structure.

Man dies at Ottaway Half Marathon finish line

A 39 year old runner died moments after crossing the finish line of the National Capital Half Marathon. According to volunteer Anick Losier, this is the fourth time a marathoner has died during this event in the past 29 years.
