Mike Korir of Kenya took home a victory this weekend in the Philadelphia Marathon with 2 hours, 18 minutes, 43 seconds. Who came in second was yet another Kenyan, Charles Kamindo in 2:19:16. Tatiana Maslova of Russia pulled away from Cassy Byrne (Pennsylvania) just in time to win the women's division in 2:39:47.

Casey Byrne will run in the Philadelphia Marathon with intentions to qualify for the Olympics. "Coach (Joe Puleo) is going to make me run as fast as I can," Byrne said. "Even if I go out there and fall apart." At 37 Byrne has already won the Hi-Tec National title, a series of team races, she also swims, kayaks and does just about every other punishing athletic activity a person can choose, including 7 years as a professional mountain biker.

One year after recovering from a brain tumor, and having to rely on a cane for support, three-time marathon runner Maria Carrington will race in Philadelphia's Marathon this weekend. Carrington is a local Philadelphian who loves her life just as much as she loves long distance.

Marathon runner Kim Saddic is preparing for this weekend's Philadelphia Marathon by eating food that Kenyan's eat. Ugali is a common dish in Kenya, which Sarric learned about on a training trip to Kenya before taking second place in her first offical race -Philadelphia Marathon in 2000. "I enjoy the sport, I enjoy the people I've met through it. It's part of who I am," Sarric claimed as she prepared the corn meal. And with a height of 5 foot 3 inches, a goal-time of 2:40 this year, her Kenyan-born Philadelphia resident friends agree.
