The Raleigh police in charge of directing runners during Sunday's marathon apologized for misdirecting runners, a mistake that cut the distance and times for the leaders. While the problem probably did not affect the order of finishing, it may impact whether some of the misdirected runners qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Raleigh Marathon: Wrong route mars marathon for some

Unfortunately at the Raleigh Marathon on Sunday a motorcycle police officer, following the advice of a misinformed spectator, improperly routed the quickest runners along a path that shaved about a mile off the race, leaving the top 100 finishers disqualified.
