More than twenty-thousand runners from around the globe have signed up for the Las Vegas Marathon this weekend. Dr. Soloman Zak will celebrate his eightieth birthday by running the 26.2 mile race.

In the women's race Silviya Skvortsova of Russia dominated the race by taking an early lead at mile one to finish in a 2:29.01. On top of her $20,000 first place prize award, Skvortsova was awarded an extra $25,000 for the Megabucks Challenge having reaching the finish line before men's champion. There is an eighteen minute gap between the start of the women's race and the start of the men's race. The men's winner, Kenyan Christopher Cheboibich finished in 2:16:49.
