Army Staff Sgt. David Cox along with two other soldiers competed at this weekend's Mother Road races while wearing 35lbs. backpacks in order to raise money for scholarships for children of veterans.

The Mother Road Marathon on Route 66 is scheduled for October 9 and the course will run through three different states.

Registration for all Mother Road races will be open until October 6th. Entry fees for the full marathon start at $60; half marathon at $50 and the 5K at $25. Rates will increase beginning June 15th so runners are encouraged to register early.
