Sarasota Marathon The Grouper Run

Cristina Noble crossed the finish line first in Sunday's Sarasota Marathon but Madeleine Zolfo, 43, of Treasure Island, Florida was officially declared the winner on Monday night. Noble ran the 2007 Detroit Marathon in 3 hours and 9 minutes and her disqualified time from Sunday was 3 hours and 10 minutes. Race officials concluded that the course was well marked and that Noble merely missed one mile of the course from the 17th mile to the 18th mile on an out and back section on Ken Thompson Parkway.

Visitors from forty-three states and seven countries turned out for the third annual ABC 7 Saratsota Marathon. Participants tallied around 2,400 runners with Tomas Lepp, a 37-year-old native of Sweden living near Orlando, claiming top honors with a time of two hours and 51 minutes for the 26.2 mile course

Lisette Riveron, founder of Sarasota Marathon, is expecting 620 registrants for the 2008 Sarasota Marathon and 1,986 for the half marathon. Riveron herself has completed seventeen marathons. She may move the race to President's Day weekend in 2009.

Bradenton native, Mike Aldrink, will be returning to his hometown to defend his title at the 2008 Sarasota Marathon. Aldrink had won eight of eleven marathons he ran in 2007. This will be Aldrink's 40th marathon.
