Janet Burgess flew all the way from Renton, Washington to claim another state on her list to claim a marathon in all 50 states.

Kristina Yanosek-Tyler finished her first marathon in eight years and did so with a Boston Qualifying time of three hours and 3 minutes. Tyler was able to run the second loop of the course 3 minutes faster than her first loop and that was the difference in time of second place women's finisher Jennifer Eberman of Toronto, Canada.

Jeff Kosiorek won the 2008 Tybee Marathon in 2:41:26 taking ten minutes off his personal best which was set at the Rocket City Marathon in December 2008. Kosiorek had shed fifty pounds over the past year. Nicholas Eugster finished in second and Radek Parnica was third. In the women's race Kristina Yanosek-Tyler won in a 3:03:19.

The Tybee Marathon will move the awards ceremony indoors for the first time in many years. While conditions last year were near ideal for Mike Aldrink's course record setting debut in Tybee, there are concerns about the conditions this year. Race director Ron Boyette said that the runners will brave whatever elements the coastal marathon throws at them.
