Despite recent media coverage detailing the financial problems of the Las Vegas Marathon, the Salt Lake City Marathon also owned by Devine Racing does not have the same problems as the other races says the event management company president Chris Devine.  Devine has mentioned the sale of two significant assets owned by Devine racing.  The deals are expected to close by mid-June.

The Salt Lake City Marathon raised over $220,000 for cancer research last year. More than 12,000 runners hit the street this past weekend to start it again. Genna Tufa, Bronx, NY finished in first place with a time of 2:23:10. The women's champion Maria Portilla, Albuquerque, N.M. finished with a time of 2:40:24 won for the second straight year. The winners took home $5,000.

Runners Hit the Pavement for Salt Lake City Marathon

The 2008 Salt Lake City Marathon is expected to break all previous totals since the event started in 2004 with an anticipated 12,00 signed up for the race.  Race director Steve Kerr likes those numbers, but he also states the goal is to make the event more community based and community oriented.  Race weekend festivities include a bike tour, a handcycle and wheelchair race, a 5K, a half marathon and a marathon.
