"Fun Marathon" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Even with the very cold morning and wait from 4am til 6am, I still enjoyed this marathon. It was well organized, sensitive to runners' needs such as porta-potties, vaseline and other such special touches. I had a great time! The only problem is where are the results??? Chip race and no results 2 days later. I would love to know how I did in my age group.

This was my 8th marathon and my 2nd Disney. My brother flew from San Francisco to run his first marathon and we both had a blast. The volunteers throughout the course were the best and just running inside the parks brings the child in you out. The weather was no doubt extremely cold and windy; however, it didn't stop us from going all the way. We will be there next year for sure, and you should too.

"A well-run race, but not for snobs." (about: 2004)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Just returned from the 2004 marathon. It was an amazing feat of organization. Disney is among the best at moving 24,000 people to the same place at the same time.

Even with all those runners, I never felt pinched or slowed by crowds. I was in Corral B, so it might be different further back.

The course is not much better than any other. The time you are in the parks is very short compared to the open highway/road running. But there are always lots of people around to talk to to pass the time. And it is also fun to see 'behind the scenes' in some of the areas.

Where there are people lining the course, they are loud, and vocal and happier than most of the runners.

The approach to the finish line was wonderful. There were thousands of people in bleachers lining the finish area. It was a big thrill to hear all those people cheer my name.

My only problem with the race is that the vast majority of people in the race walk and or walk/run. Call me a snob, or insecure, or anything else, but I feel like my finish (4:00) is less special because of all the 6 and 7 hour finishers walking around with the same medal as me. I'll get over it.

My conclusions:

Don't get over-excited about running in the parks. It's mostly an open highway course.

If you like touchy-feely, rah-rah groups of power walkers, this is the race for you.

Disney runs the race well. Just follow the instructions and you will be where you need to be at all times.

Pray for warm weather and no wind.

"Race good, travel from outside Disney horrible" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 4

The race itself was very well organized - lots of porta-potties, nice corrals, good water stops and it started on time. My biggest complaint was that there were no signs or volunteers to guide people driving in on race morning. Despite arriving at Disney at 4:15am, I nearly missed the 6am race start. Many participants were confused by the closed roads and lack of race specific signs/volunteers.

"Simply Fantastic!" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my 8th marathon and first time running Disney. Yes, it was very, very cold... but the organization was fantastic. I've never seen so many porta-johns, medical and water positions during any other race. The course was great and the fan support was at various places throughout the course. It was good to complete the run very early because it provided an opportunity to take the family to the park and not waste a day. Overall, except for the weather, this was an outstanding marathon.

Great marathon. It's a fun marathon if you are not going for time. It brought back the love of running a marathon for me. I'll be back next year!

"Lots of Fun" (about: 2004)

This was my first marathon and I had a lot of fun. I have been training once a week at 6 a.m., so the early start was not bad. Having to be there at 4 a.m. and wait for 2 hours was a little difficult. Running through the parks was a lot of fun and fans support was very good. The long stretches between parks was not too bad. Between characters, fans, and water stops there was enough stuff to break it up. Very well organized. Would certainly run it again.

"Overall great experience!!!" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

This was my eleventh marathon in nine states. As always the larger marathons are a drag due to the early arrivals neccessary for logistical purposes. Anyone who complains about scenery, organization or crowd support in this marathon needs to get out more. It is not the crowds of New York or the scenery of Big Sur, but this is Florida in the winter, and personally I like to plan my marathons in areas at times that make for pleasurable vacations.

The medal, as everyone should know by now, is second to none. True, you only run through the parks for a few miles but there are just enough distractions to take your mind off the task at hand. If you are too concerned about how much time you spend in Disney maybe relocate and get a job in the park. The T-shirt is so-so. Sponsors names should be small on the shirts with emphasis on the marathon. I definitely am not a billboard. After reading other peoples' reviews in the past - often inexperienced runners - I was very glad to see how smoothly this race is run. Definitely worth a trip... return trip perhaps, but I don't do repeats anyway...

"It's Fair At Best" (about: 2003)

I ran the Disney Marathon and I have to say that I was very unimpressed. It was my first and last Disney. You're only in the parks for a few miles and the rest of the race you're running on back streets that spectators can't even get to. Every now and then you see Mickey and some of his pals. The roads are slanted and did a number on my legs. The only good thing about the marathon was the medal. I can promise you that you will not see my name in the results again.

"Great first marathon" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon and it was definitely an amazing experience.

Running through the different parks was fantastic, but the parks are fairly small relative to 26.2 miles, so there was also a lot of more tedious highway running.

The crowd support was great, but a bit scattered, and my friends and family had a hard time getting around the park to see me at different points.

The 6am start was tough to get up for, but it was actually nice to run so early in the morning and be done by lunch.

Overall, I would recommend it, particularly for first-timers. It had a supportive, fun, and relaxed atmosphere.
