"Amazing organisation; Nice flat course" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon so admittedly I have no basis for comparison but I must say that the organisation and support for this race was exceptional. From the buses to the expo to the ample food and drink at the finish line, I wanted and waited for nothing. I will most certainly run this marathon again in the future.
There were, indeed, spots where there was very little fan support but, for the most part, it didn't bother me. Where there were fans, the support was outstanding.

"My first marathon" (about: 2003)

I hadn't planned on running a marathon since it would be just be a year that I myself started running when this race would be run. I tried to enter the half marathon a month after registation opened and was the race was already full, so I entered the marathon. The race was great, I qualified for Boston. The weather was great, support was wonderful. The medals are very nice. The race was definetly Disney quality

"Can't wait until next year!!!" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first year doing any kind of marathon. I was walking for the leukemia and lymphoma society. I came to this site before the marathon and I was so nervous about what to expect. I thought that I had made the wrong decision for my first marathon. Boy was I wrong!! The marathon was so well organized. It is early but so what. It really didn't matter to me. Once I was awake I was so excited for the day. People complained about the boring scenary on the course. I don't know about where some of these people trained but I walked outside in circles around a town when it was 30 degrees out and if it was too cold or snowing, I walked around a mall during the Christmas rush. I didn't think that seeing the back of disney was all that bad. The crowd support was great. The medals were wonderful. I can't wait to raise more money for leukemia research next year and go back to Disney. If you are looking at the site wondering if you should do this marathon, please don't get discouraged by what some people wrote. I guess that some of the people were training on the beaches of Hawaii and all along their training route, people were yelling encouragement to them.

"Skeptical, Cautious, and Thanks!!!!" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I read all 2002 comments and became skeptical to enter the 2003 Disney Marathon.
The 3AM bus trip, 6AM start, the boring access roads, and the negative signs along the course didn't interest me.
I only entered the 2003 Disney Marathon because my wife wanted to see the 100 Year Celebration, and I wanted the Disney Marathon's 10th Anniversary Medal.
I wanted to a run PR @ Disney, but Plantar Fasciitis, after the 2002 Boston Marathon, made this impossible.
It took me 4 months of no running and purchasing Custom Orthotics to run and finish Disney.
I took a cautious approach in training for Disney and I finished in one piece, and I'm already training hard for the 2003 Boston Marathon.
Walt Disney did an outstanding job putting on this race. The ample porta potties, water stops, aid stations, cast members, and volunteers made it a world class event.
I want to run the 2004 Walt Disney Half Marathon to earn the Donald Duck Medal.
I hope Disney can duplicate Boston's 0n-line tracking ability. This lets friends and family track your progress on-line @ 5K intervals. They know your place, pace time, and predicated finish time, and actual finish time in just seconds. My family loves it.

Again, thanks Disney for a Wonderful time!!!!

"Great Winter Training Race/FUN" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon, not in an Ironman, and it was fantastic. Crowds were great! I was having so much fun at mile 10 I almost started laughing. I'll be back. It really kept me focused on training during the holidays and helped keep the weight off! Early start was not a big deal. Strong support everywhere. There was a great spirit at this race.

"Great Event" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

This was my 14th and I had a great time. Overall the race was great. Charaters were at many, many places along the route ready for picture opportunities. Running through the parks was very, very cool. Although you were only in the parks for about 6 miles of the total course, it felt like much more. Knowing another park was coming gave you something to look forward to. Start was early, but when you have to move that many people things just simply take longer. Thought the crowd support was good for the places that they were allowed to be. I went expecting less because I had heard you were running on service roads most of the time. I was pleasantly surprised!! Even though you were on roads that weren't all that scenic, Disney did a great job of keeping it interesting - from motivational boards to trivia to music to characters! We had great phots with the cast of Bugs Life on the back roads of Animal Kingdom, were greeted with a three story tall Safari Mickey, and saw Minnie and Mickey complete with Safari cruiser as we left that park. I loved my race pictures with Cinderella's Castle in the background. The only part of the day that was tough was the sweeper bus - I wish they had done a better job of letting us know in an incremental manner. We were completely informed about the pace you had to keep prior to the race, but admittingly got distracted because of all the stuff to see and pictures along the way, we didn't realize that we had fallen a tad bit behind the sweeper pace. All was well after we realized, but had to make up ground more than we had anticipated. Would have been nice to have known sooner. Loved the finish through Epcot - the music was so inspirational I almost started crying. Disney employees were so incredible and awesome - made the crowd sparse places feel great all the same. It was a great experience from start to finish, and I do recommend this race to everyone. If the incredible medal isn't enough to get you to run this one, then just the general sense of fun should. It isn't a race to run for a PR because you'll miss all the fun stuff!

"Outdated review" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

For those considering running the Disney Marathon please disregard the review below from Gayle Mancuso. She ran the race in 1995 - things have changed radically since then and her comments are not relevent. I would hate to see outdated information dissuade anyone from this marathon.

"For those who are thinking of running this one..." (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 2

Course: boring but fine. No nutrition until 1/2 is over but lots of water/P-ade stops, loved those medical personnel and their freezy goo!

Organization: Characters are cool. Music was very lame--and generally nonexistent. Motivational sayings were cool. 'Mobile restrooms' were plentiful, and we had the chance to sneak into real ones (!) in the animal kingdom park. Corral assignments were AWFUL. The start time was a little wacky, but you needed to aim for 4am because of the terrible traffic with poor lane direction. Characters and fireworks were very cool at start and running through Epcot in the dark, with the lights on the bridge, was really really awesome. Then the race track narrowed to cause several roadblocks--after the race I re-read my stuff and noticed that we were notified of this, but it was irritating nonetheless. DEFINITELY not enough food afterwards, and no food was offered to the spectators. Poor communication re: finding pics at ASIorders.com (took them like 9 days to email this--like they didn't know ahead of time? C'mon, we're excited!)

Spectators: DID NOT CHEER! Maybe there were just too many people to cheer for? I heard that this was a great race from the spectator side, but my family thought otherwise.

This was an interesting race, but I would not spend the bucks to do it again.

"Very entertaining and flat" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This was my first marathon and I was very pleased with it overall. The 6am start was pretty brutal with temps in the low 40s and a 15 mph wind, but once you start running you definitely warm up. Plenty of water stations. Running through the Disney parks is very cool. There were more people in the Magic Kingdom at 7:30am than I expected. Animal Kingdon, MGM and EPCOT were pretty sparse as far as crowds go, but the location can't be beat. In between parks can be pretty boring, with long stretches of highway. Great finish, many Disney characters cheering you on. Good crowd at finish. Good t-shirt, great medal. Very fast results on internet, pictures available only 1 week after finish. May return in the future.
