The 2025 Los Angeles Marathon, held on March 16, was a landmark event, drawing over 20,000 participants to its famous “Stadium to the Stars” course. The race made history as Matt Richtman, a former NCAA Division III All-American from North Central College, became the first American male to win the event in 30 years, finishing in 2:07:56. Kenya’s Athanas Kioko, an All-American from Campbell University, placed second in 2:10:55, while Moses Kiptoo Kurgat secured third in 2:13:14. In the women’s division, Tejinesh Gebisa Tulu of Ethiopia won in 2:30:14; she previously claimed victories in marathons across Africa and Asia. Kenya’s Antonina Kwambai, a consistent top finisher in global races, finished second in 2:30:18, followed closely by Savannah Berry, an emerging American marathon talent, in 2:30:30.
Celebrating its 40th edition, this year’s marathon honored the 92 Legacy Runners, individuals who have participated in every LA Marathon since its inception in 1986. The scenic course, beginning at Dodger Stadium and winding through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and West LA, remains one of the most iconic urban marathon routes.

In the recent Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon held on March 16, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA, Jerry Greenlaw secured the men’s title with a time of 2:27:28. Notably, Greenlaw has previously achieved top placements in various regional races, showcasing his consistent performance in the marathon circuit. In the women’s division, Staci Huelat emerged victorious, completing the course in 2:55:00. At the Tobacco Road Marathon on March 16, 2025, in Cary, NC, John Crews led the men’s category, finishing in 2:29:43. Crews has a history of strong performances, including previous victories at regional marathons, underscoring his endurance and speed. On the women’s side, Cassidy Heaton claimed the top spot with a time of 2:44:33. Heaton, known for her rapid progression in marathon running, has been steadily improving her times over the past few years. This trail, a former railroad corridor, provides a serene, tree-lined route that is both fast and conducive to personal bests. In the Zydeco Marathon held on March 16, 2025, in Lafayette, LA, Blaine Sullivan won the men’s race. The Big Island International Marathon on March 16, 2025, in Hilo, HI, saw Kai Mittelsteadt finish first in the men’s category with a time of 2:51:54. In the women’s race, Caitlyn Tateishi emerged victorious, clocking in at 3:18:03.
