Runners across the country took on everything from rugged trails to scenic roads in a packed weekend of marathons.
At the Irving Marathon over 400 runners participated in this popular Texas event. Matias Videla dominated the men’s race, crossing the finish line at 2:36:01. In the women’s division, Mckinlee Kepner led with a time of 3:15:51. Kepner is a dedicated volunteer, organizing community clean-up events in her hometown.
Queens Marathon and QDR Half Marathon – Queens, NY (March 30, 2025)
Nick Coury dominated the men’s marathon, finishing in 2:38:58. Coury is not only a seasoned marathoner but also a software engineer who develops apps to aid runners in training. Coury is a distinguished ultrarunner with a history of over 30 first-place finishes in ultramarathon events. He notably set an American record by covering 173.015 miles in 24 hours at the Desert Solstice Invitational in 2021. In the women’s marathon, Chantel Yip secured victory with a time of 3:28:34. Yip is recognized for her advocacy in mental health awareness, often integrating mindfulness practices into her training regimen.
At the Two Rivers Sunday Marathon, held in Lackawaxen, PA, Attila Kovacs clinched first place in the men’s division with a time of 2:53:32. Prominent figure who renowned for his achievements in the 100m and 200m events, including an 11-time national champion title in the 100m. The women’s race was led by Kendra Knopp, who finished in 3:28:40. Knopp is a dedicated youth athletics coach in her community, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and perseverance.
B&A Trail Marathon – Severna Park, MD (March 30, 2025)
With over 300 participants, this Maryland race drew a strong local and regional field. The men’s race saw Michael K. Mbagu finish first with a time of 2:42:01. Mbagu, originally from Nigeria, is an environmental scientist focusing on sustainable urban development. In the women’s division, Alisha Zespy led the pack, completing the marathon in 3:13:27. Zespy is a nutritionist who specializes in creating diet plans tailored for endurance athletes.
Bakersfield Marathon – Bakersfield, CA (March 29, 2025)
More than 300 runners took part, making it one of the Central Valley’s most well-attended races. Percy Armendariz took the men’s title with a time of 2:45:31. Armendariz is a local firefighter who uses marathon running to raise funds for burn victims. The women’s race was won by Diana Reyes, finishing in 3:05:42. Reyes is a high school teacher who integrates physical fitness into her curriculum to promote student health.
Yakima River Canyon Marathon – Yakima, WA (March 29, 2025)
This scenic Washington event hosted over 100 runners, creating an intimate and focused race atmosphere. In the men’s category, AJ Osborne emerged victorious with a time of 2:53:09. Osborne is a wildlife photographer who often combines his passion for running with capturing nature scenes. The women’s race was led by Kiera Campbell, who finished in 3:37:10. Campbell is a yoga instructor who emphasizes the benefits of flexibility and mindfulness for runners.
Savin Rock Marathon – West Haven, CT (March 29, 2025)
The men’s marathon was won by Tighe Duggan, who posted a time of 2:49:22. Duggan is a marine biologist researching coastal ecosystems. In the women’s race, Evaline Ouellette secured first place with a time of 3:06:54. Ouellette is an artist known for her landscape paintings inspired by her running routes.
Two Rivers Marathon Race Festival – Lackawaxen, PA (March 29, 2025)
Craig Myrum led the men’s marathon, finishing in 2:52:47. Myrum is a paramedic who advocates for heart health awareness through running. The women’s race saw Taylor Lippolis take the top spot with a time of 3:19:57. Lippolis is a graduate student researching the effects of long-distance running on mental health.
Appalachian Series – Bluefield, WV (March 27, 2025)
In the men’s division, Eric Tunquist finished first with a time of 4:23:42. Tunquist is a retired military officer who now mentors young athletes. The women’s race was won by Sally Shreeves, completing the marathon in 5:22:15. Shreeves is a librarian who organizes community literacy programs.
Appalachian Series – Bluefield, VA (March 26, 2025)
Jason Samens topped the men’s category with a time of 4:21:20. Samens is a software developer who creates apps to assist runners in tracking their progress. In the women’s division, Carol Rose led with a time of 3:51:07. Rose is a botanist specializing in Appalachian plant species.
