Boston recap, training tips, and what’s next on the calendar
➡️ This week, we’re celebrating every Boston finisher, unpacking the men’s and women’s races, sharing nine form habits to train out of your stride, and previewing upcoming US marathons, including a featured race in Chandler, Arizona.
🎉 Congratulations to every runner who crossed the finish line at this year’s Boston Marathon!
The months of training, early mornings, and long miles have all led to this moment, and you should be incredibly proud. Boston is one of the most demanding marathons in the world, and seeing it through from Hopkinton to Boylston Street is an achievement few will ever know. Rest those hard-earned legs and celebrate, you’ve joined a legendary tradition.
The Women’s Race

The women’s race at the 2026 Boston Marathon began with a clear favorite, and Sharon Lokedi (KEN) ran like one. Last year, Lokedi won Boston in 2:17:22 (course record, Boston 2025) after a long duel with Hellen Obiri (KEN), a rivalry that had become one of the defining features of recent Boston women’s racing. This year, Obiri skipped Boston and chose London for her spring marathon, leaving Lokedi without the familiar competitor who, by Lokedi’s own admission before the race, “brings out the best in me.”
The Men’s Race

The story entering the 2026 Boston Marathon men’s race was simple enough: this was one of the deepest fields the event had ever assembled, and the weather looked favorable. The field included 10 men who had run under 2:05, several past Boston champions, and a group of Americans who seemed increasingly willing to race near the front rather than sit back and hope for a top-10 finish. The weather only added to the intrigue. Temperatures were cool, and while the wind at the start was only slight, it built during the race into the kind of helpful tailwind that can matter enormously on a point-to-point course like Boston.

⭐️ Training Tip
9 Form Habits That Are Quietly Costing You — and How to Train Them Out
Most of us can spot a form breakdown in a training partner from half a mile away. Our own bodies? Not so much. You can feel perfectly smooth while leaking energy out of every footfall, and those small inefficiencies pile up mile after mile until they show up as a slower finish, a sore knee, or a training block that falls apart.
Here’s the encouraging part: form is trainable. Once you know what to look for, most issues respond quickly to a few simple cues and some targeted strength work.

Montana Marathon

The Montana Marathon course is one of the fastest and most scenic in the region, making it a favorite for runners chasing personal bests or a Boston Qualifier. Starting high on the rolling plains outside Billings in the small town of Molt, the route follows a gradual downhill descent (1,000′ Net Drop) into the Magic City, showcasing wide-open skies, mountain views, and the beauty of Big Sky Country.

My all-time favorite runner is Haile Gebrselassie, an Ethiopian legend who, in a professional career spanning from 1992 to 2015, won two Olympic and eight world championship gold medals and set twenty-seven world records. I got a chance to meet Geb in person at an Adidas-sponsored event in Los Angeles in 2009. On the eve of the main festivities, history…
Fargo Mini Marathon

The Fargo Mini features a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, welcoming everyone from first-time racers to seasoned runners chasing new goals. With a start and finish inside the Fargo Civic Center and nearly 90% of the course along the scenic Red River bike paths, this event offers a fast, fun, and beautiful race experience through the heart of our community.
➡️ Featured marathon you shouldn’t miss

There’s something quietly thrilling about a marathon that refuses to be a spectacle. No confetti cannons at mile 13. No oversized inflatable archways every quarter mile. No celebrity pace groups waving you onto the course. The Marathon Project, returning to Chandler, Arizona on December 12, 2026, is the rare race that whispers instead of shouts — and that is exactly why runners keep circling it on their calendars.
