In the women’s division, 38-year-old Beth Marzigliano from Naples, Florida, secured first place, finishing in 3:03:41. Marzigliano previously won the women’s title in the 2020 virtual Boston Marathon with a time of 2:45:54.
The Mississippi River Marathon, held on February 1, 2025, in Greenville, Mississippi, saw remarkable performances. Whit Kendall, 30, from Jackson, Mississippi, secured first place with a time of 2:46:11. In the women’s division, 46-year-old Sadie Smith from Kirkwood, Missouri, delivered a standout performance, finishing in 2:58:52 — one of the few female champions to break the 3-hour mark that weekend. Her victory serves as an inspiration to age-group runners. Notably, the 2025 race saw a course change, with both the full and half marathons starting and ending in Greenville due to construction on Highway 82.
In other events, Shane Kelliher, 26, of Uniontown, Ohio, dominated the Warm Up Columbus Marathon on February 2, 2025, finishing in 2:25:38 – more than 23 minutes ahead of the runner-up. Kelliher, a former University of Akron middle-distance runner, has transitioned impressively to marathon success.
At the Tallahassee Marathon, also on February 2, 27-year-old Dylan Gearinger from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, posted the fastest overall time of the weekend, winning in 2:25:31. Gearinger recently set a course record at the 2024 Scranton Half Marathon with a time of 1:04:29. In the women’s race, Gabrielle Suver, 34, of Clermont, Florida, finished in 2:54:04. Suver, who turned professional in duathlon in 2020 and transitioned to professional triathlon in 2022, also works full-time as a virtual PE/Health teacher.
Meanwhile, the Golden Gate Trail Run Marathon on February 1 saw 46-year-old Chris Portella from San Rafael, California, navigate the challenging course to win in 3:59:43. On the women’s side, 27-year-old Alexa Romano of San Francisco, California, secured victory in 4:12:32, adding to her record of strong performances in Bay Area endurance events.
