        Liz McColgan receives John Disley Lifetime Achievement Award

      McColgan received the award during the 2023 TCS London Marathon 
                           podium presentations

The former London Marathon winner Liz McColgan has been recognised with the 
prestigious John Disley Lifetime Achievement Award.

McColgan - who won the 1996 London Marathon and was runner-up in 1997 - 
received the award, named after the co-founder of the London Marathon, 
during the 2023 TCS London Marathon podium presentations yesterday (Sunday 
23 April).

The Scottish star follows in the tracks of many British running legends who 
have received the award, which was created in 2015. They include three-time 
London Marathon champion Paula Radcliffe, the first British men's London 
Marathon winner Hugh Jones and former Olympic athlete and commentator 
Brendan Foster, who was the voice of the event for the BBC for decades.

McColgan watched yesterday's stunning elite women's race ahead of receiving 
her award as Sifan Hassan (NED) claimed one of the most memorable wins in 
London Marathon history. McColgan's daughter Eilish, the Commonwealth Games 
10,000m champion, was due to make her marathon debut alongside Hassan but 
had to withdraw due to a knee issue two days before the race.

Samantha Harrison was the first British finisher in 2:25:59. This time puts 
her sixth on the all-time British marathon rankings, knocking Liz McColgan 
out of the all-time top 10.
