"Loved the 17 miles downhill, and great spectators" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 The first 17-18 miles were great, but the last 8 were very hard (some uphill, not a lot of shade, lots of traffic). The bus fiasco at the hairpin turn was unfortunate, though not really the race organizer's fault. I was lucky enough to be in the bus right behind the one that got stuck, so we knew what was going on and got to wait in a warm bus while the organizers figured out what to do. We did end up walking maybe a quarter or half mile to catch a bus the rest of the way to the start line, but everything worked out okay. At the start line, there were cones and tape blocking the port-a-potties that caused a lot of confusion not sure why they were blocked off that way. The aid stations throughout the race were great, plenty of fluids and snacks (loved the Jolly Ranchers). I felt very encouraged by the spectators and volunteers along the course, they were all terrific.

"Well run race...a must do at least once." (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 The race is very well run...runners are taken care of very well. Race staff are always on top of things. Only comment I have really is not that the course is bad it is just tough. 18 miles downhill is a killer and you just have to be really ready for that. You experience a ton of soreness after which happens no matter how many times you run down the canyon. For the 1/2...I think it is a great race. For the full...it's tough.

"Beautiful course but start out slow" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 I loved the course and the feel of the race. It was unfortunate that a bus didn't make the turn on to Guardsman pass and delayed the start. The support along the course was fantastic and the finish area with the grass and trees was great. I had a hard time finding my bag at the end. Partly because I was exhausted and the bag were only partially organized. Over all it was a good experience.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Loved the course! My quads didn't know what hit them coming out of the canyon. Organization was amazing. Volunteers were upbeat and encouraging, enjoyed every minute. Definitely will add more downhill training.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 Loved the 18 or so miles of downhill through a gorgeous canyon! Very well organized. Too bad it ended with a grueling and thoroughly unenjoyable 6 miles through the city. I nearly died in the last few miles after cruising for the first 20.

"Fast marathon - outstanding organization" (about: 2013)
11-50 previous marathons
| 2 Big Cottonwood Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 1. Very fast marathon - 17 miles down a canyon with 4000+ feet elevation drop 2. Spectacular scenery (ran 11 marathons so far and this was by far the most beautiful) 3. Very well organized. Although it's a new race (only its second year) the organization goes way beyond expectations. I've ran big names as Chicago or CIM, and the communication and feedback from the BCC marathon organization was outstanding in comparison. You send an email with a concern/question, you definitely get an answer. 4. BIG medal. Nice swag bag, virtual and physical. 5. Nice finish area, plenty of food and drinks for the marathoners. Massage provided by the local PTs. 6. BOSTON Qualifier...I've qualified twice on this marathon. 7. Point to point marathon, not a lot of turns. 8. Be prepared to be taken via school bus up on the canyon anywhere between 4-6 am. It's about 25-30 mins ride up on the canyon. This is a marathon that requires a very specific downhill training. It is a must . But if the downhill training is well incorporated, then it's an extremely fast marathon. I've had a great experience doing the inaugural (although the course was different and not as great) and running the second year's marathon did not disappoint.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I ran the full in 2012 and 2013 , the run along Wasatch was challenging and very hot in 2012. The course change you did for 2013 was amazing and the finish line was more spacious and allowed for more spectators. MEDALS AWESOME!!!

"Top Notch Race!" (about: 2013)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I LOVED this race because of the organization and how the race directors went out of their way for runners. Everything was high quality - from the shirt to the medal to the bags - EVERYTHING. I love Zazoosh photography and this is the first race I've done where ALL pictures were free! That's over 40+ free pictures. I had a tough time on the course after fighting injury to get there, but had the stars aligned differently for me, I know this would have been a PR course. I'll be back next year! |
