"Worth the MONEY!" (about: 2014)

My first 50k but not my first trail run. Loved Pinckney State Rec. area. Most aggressive trail you'll find in Southeastern Michigan. Doing it again in 2015. Descent aid stations and park is easy to get to. Just don't come late, parking is a premium.

"NOT fast or flat, but FUN!" (about: 2009)

First Marathon

I ran the 5-mile Trail Ends event on Saturday (dry conditions) AND the half on Sunday (wet conditions thanks to Saturday night's storms). Up, down, roots, rocks, mosquitoes, mud and fallen trees, all mixed in with turns galore... FUN!! Plus, that bench sitting there, mocking you from the top of longest hill and 1 mile from end. Great camaraderie among the runners! I was a back-of-the-pack halfer, and I had the fastest full runners lap me. They actually were saying things like, "You're doing great! Keep it up!"

"Grueling, endless small hills, 99% trails." (General Comments)

Ahhrg! At least the organizers warn you in the descripion of this race. I was at about 10 miles per day level and this race SQUASHED me!! Veterans will tell you to take it slow. I did for the first 2 miles and then took off like the rabbitt I was. I ended up being second to last. This was 1990. The name 'Pinckney' still makes me cringe. I have since done the Pikes Peak marathon twice. PP marathon was MUCH easier! The only flat place was I think between mile 7-8 and that was only for about 1/2 a mile. Over training for this marathon is NOT possible! If you still are interested, you are probably twisted enough to try it! Good Luck!!!

"A great and very tough race!" (General Comments)

This marathon is scenic and very challenging. It is one of three races held during the weekend - a 5-mile on Saturday and the half and full marathons on Sunday. It is a two-loop course, and if I remember right it measures out at about 26.4 miles. I ran this in 2000 as my first marathon, which some considered crazy. However, I had run the half marathon before, and I have the luxury of being able to train on the course, which I did religiously. Don't run this if you need crowd support every step of the way; some portions of the course are fairly isolated and all you're likely to see is the wildlife. With the exception of one hill that appears endless, particularly the second time around, it's not so much the size as the quantity of hills that will crush you and your quads. Count on it taking a half hour or more longer than what you can do on the roads. I highly recommend this race as a foray into long-distance trail runs.

"One of the toughest courses I have ever run." (about: 2000)

My name is Dave Meisner and I ran the Marathon last year. It is without a doubt one the most demanding courses I have ever run. It is a double loop course with the second loop being the killer. It is tough enough doing the Half Marathon but to continue on with another loop is what some people might call a little crazy. This is a great training run for an Ultra Marathoner. If you love hills and trails this is the race for you. But in all seriousness, it is definately a race to put on your agenda. I have run the Half Marathon a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.
