"Nice Small Town Marathon With A Long History" (about: 2016)

After running most of my marathons in big cities, I entered this one without any ambitious goals other than to finish it as a strong training run. Located an hour out of Tokyo, this year's race was somewhat spoiled by very strong winds and rain. The course was scenic (small villages, farms, lakeside) and I'd have given the course a 5-star rating if the weather was better and the scenery not marred by the horizontal rain and high winds. Nevertheless, the supporters were excellent and stayed out cheering us despite the foul conditions. They even set up an ad-hoc station serving hot tea and had a fireplace going.
