"Great small town race." (about: 1995)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

I finished third twice in this race back in 93 and 95. Though the race was small the organization of the race was supurb. Plenty of aid stations, a relativity flat course and cool weather. One nice aspect about the race is that the 8,14,and 20 points are at the same intersection so friends and family can cheer you on. The plaque that they give you when you finish is a nice reward and you will receive within a few weeks your name, place and finishing time to be attached to the plaque. It's good to see this race back and I hope it remains for a long time.

"Small and Fun" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

I did this race in 2000 (2nd out of 34 finishers). It was the first year for the race; it was on the same weekend as Boston; and I do not believe any real advertising was put out. This is the reason, I believe, for the small size. It seemed as though most of us were simply using this as a training run for the Pittsburgh Marathon or some other race.

I loved the race. Everything went pretty smoothly, with plenty of food, refreshments, etc. Because it starts and ends at a high school, showers were available afterwards, which was really, really nice.

Given the size of the race, it had a very hometown feel. While the roads were not closed to traffic, there was so little traffic that it was not a bother. This is a tough and hilly course. The finishing times reflect the difficulty of the course.

Even though the field was so small, a few people did come out to support us. All intersections were manned by volunteers, plenty of aid stations were available, etc.

I really enjoyed the race, and hope to do it again in the future.

P.S. All finishers received a plaque with their place and time. This was a very nice touch by the race director.
