Fun small fast marathon!

In 2023 this was a fun, small, fast (out & back flat course) marathon! Don't expect many people cheering along the course or lots of aid stations, but the director and staff were supportive & friendly & pulled off a great event. I've run since high school and completed about 40 marathons- my only complaint is the organizer's directive to run WITH traffic?! I was dumbfounded. The course, a rural road, is NOT CLOSED and this is unsafe. EVERY runner knows (if not- research runner safety & road running) that to avoid injury or death you run FACING traffic- the race director repeatedly attempted (albeit in a nice fashion) to convince me to run on the wrong side of the road. I did not. The road shoulders are wide and level but with normal Sunday morning traffic there were cars & trucks passing at 55mph plus. The course is 13.1 miles out & back on US Route 2/116- so simply switching to the appropriate side FACING VEHICLES will not require anything more than moving aid stations across the street. I sincerely hope a change is made for 2024! :)
