"The PERFECT marathon!!!" (about: 2023)

| 4-5 Warsaw Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 My FAVOURITE marathon! Why? So efficiently organised; very flat and great for a PB; no 'bottlenecks' of runners that you find in other marathons; plenty of refreshment stops; paper cups so more eco-friendly; beautifully designed medals; option to run for charity.

COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Beautify city, well organized race, good support. Only problem is the hill at mile 20 or 32km, then followed by uneven road.

"Misses out on the main parts of the city" (about: 2015)

COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Warsaw 2015: my second marathon after London - I knew not to expect a London experience, but somewhat disappointed... Expo: easy to get to at the National stadium, and a tube stop next door. Video of the route, and usual shops. Not massive, but quick and easy to get round - you get the technical training top early, so many people wear it on the day Race: Took 40 minutes to complete bag drop off, and nearly missed the start of the race - so give yourself the time! Usual distances for water, isotonics & banana stations - liquids come in cups though, which were harder to consume. Pacers were for the most part very good, 3 per time, and pacers every 5-10 minutes. The route, bar the start at the stadium, the park at 16k, the two bridge crossings, and the last 500m in the stadium, were just roads and motorways - it misses the old town, the palace, the cathedrals, the religious quarters... it could have been anywhere, basically - the route really was a shame, given the historic places around. The finish by entering the stadium was great though, if quite short (200m). Post-race: free hooded thermal coat provided, which was great, good medal, pasta bowl provided outside, and lots of water. Queue for the massage tables were hours long, but lots of masseurs, so could have been ok. Hard to see where changing rooms were, but finishing at the stadium, it was easy to meet up with people. Crowds: Not very populous... Perhaps because there are two marathons in the city a year, there were some segments of cheerleaders, groups of people (especially halfway), but on the whole, it was relatively empty. My experience of London does cloud my judgment here, but even forgetting that, it was only properly busy at 17km (after the park) and at the stadium.

"A beautiful place to run" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 This marathon has it all; through the city, through the parks and safe roads to run on. Plenty of drink stations, more toilets than I've seen in many other marathons, and appreciative spectators. The weather was ideal, and the course was about as flat as they come. Would love to return.

"Great race" (about: 2011)

| 1 Warsaw Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Flew from London and picked up by a good friend at the airport. Very nice airport and anyone is able to park their car outside the terminal building and leave it. On our way to their central city 6th floor apartment we received a little orientation tour of the city. The race was slightly crowed at the start but very well organised. Drink stations were frequent and plentiful. It was a warm day but plenty of water to cool one self down. Excellent soup was served after the race along with tea and coffee. After a shower we explored the old town before our flight back to London. A must do race and city to see!

"amazing organisation & spectators" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Having done a number of races in the UK, this was my first race overseas. I chose it because the date was convenient and the entry fee was very low compared to other races. However, this is by far the best organised race I have ever entered, the marshalls and supporters were excellent, the music welcome and the refreshments plentiful. The first 8km of the race was fairly scenic, but most of the remainder was shadeless dual carriageway. This made it a bit hard-going for me, but I would thoroughly recommend this race. I am even very pleased with my T-shirt!

"Returning to my birth country" (about: 2009)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 Warsaw Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 It's been many years since the last time I visited Poland. I was very proud and honored to participate in an event that brought me back to my place of birth. The running conditions were perfect, the return routes allowed family to witness the various stages runners experience, race day was extremely well organized, and everyone in the city impacted by the marathon were very respectful of the participants (there seemed to be a lot going on). I have nothing but praise for the entire event; the water stations were well equipped, and the water station support staff was pleasant and ready to serve. The cobblestone hill at the end was a pleasant challenge. I attended the expo on Friday (in mid-afternoon) and was disappointed with the quality of merchandise. The country is beautiful; I cannot wait to return, and this time the return trip must be sooner.

"Awesome race in a lovely place" (about: 2009)

| 1 Warsaw Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 We Westerners tend to believe that we have got it all. Well, go to Warsaw and run their marathon - you will see the real thing. Organization is nothing but perfect (actually, lots of Western race organizers could learn how to stage a marathon), the city is amazing and there is this undefinable something hanging in the air. And these guys do learn - I read in 2008 that the foreigners didn't get a lot of English information around; well, this year even the official marathon program I got in the race kit was half in English. What else do you expect? Oh, and if you use the public transportation, your race bib is the ticket for a free ride. Warsaw, thank you!

"Great run in great city" (about: 2009)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Warsaw Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was an excellent event. It was very well organized and executed, and it was supported by perfect, sunny weather. The streets of Warsaw offered unique, European atmosphere for runners from another continent, like myself. I liked the overwhelming support delivered by drummer bands, musicians and singers under bridges and overpasses, where the local acoustic conditions created phenomenal effects. The volunteers, mostly school children, were extremely effective and innovative. Some of them advertised their products orally to attract runners: "My PowerAde is cooler and wetter then theirs," "100% organic water," and so on. The multiple loops around the Old Town allowed the spectators to see and cheer for their runners many times in one location. Thank you, Warsaw, for a great marathon. Dziekuje za wspanialy maraton! |
