"Very Nice Race and City" (about: 2018)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Tallinn Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This race was very well organized and had some nice variety to where the course went. Packet pick up was easy and the start and finish lines very convenient to each other. The portion that was on roads was on roads that were completely closed to traffic which was fantastic. The section through the living museum and on the boardwalk along the sea was very nice. The uphill finish on cobblestone was tough, but a pretty short stretch and a good call to include part of the old city. The aid stations were well stocked and spaced out well. The crowd support varied from good in easy to get to locations to non-existent in some areas. At least in a couple of the spots where there were less spectators, the course looped back so you could at least see the runners ahead or behind you. Overall a very nice marathon.

"Well organised with pb potential" (about: 2018)

I was pleasantly surprised by how well this marathon was organised. The start and finish are both at Freedom square and were both efficiently run. The one loop course was flat with one minor incline and a slightly up hill finish on cobbles. The course is quite interesting partly through a forest, the coast and city centre. There were plenty of drinks stations with some also having energy gels. Tallinn is well worth a visit and if you run the marathon there is personal best potential.

"Decent course, fair quality" (about: 2015)

2 previous marathons | 1 Tallinn Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

Run this marathon in 2015, liked it overall. As others mentioned, it has two loops - yes, that's not that exciting. However, a good part of the course is along the waterfront - if you like the sea views with ships coming in and out of the port, that can be your thing. Especially if the weather is favourable, as it was this time around. But I recognize though it can be a bit of a problem on a windy day due to the very open terrain for the large part. Refreshment stations were ok, with water, sport drink, gels and bananas provided. Support was fairly sparse for large parts of the course due to its location. End of the loop had a bit of a climb, but manageable. Foil blankets were provided. Overall, a decent marathon to add to the list, especially for those within easy geographical reach.

"good organization but rather boring course" (about: 2015)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Tallinn Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

Around 2000 people finished full marathon. The organization was very good. The supplies on the way were also good. For every 2.5km(approximately), you had sports drink, water, oranges, raisins and black bread(Estonians love this). Energy gels were provided 4 times on the way.

However, the course is too boring. You not only run two loops, for each loop, you also run back and forth. That means when you have run for 10.5km, you have seen everything of the whole course. There are some beautiful parts along the sea but seeing it one time is enough. At the end of each loop, you run uphill. Less than 1 km is in the old town, which is covered in pebbles.

As for the spectators, some are enthusiastics. But far from the city centre, there aren't many. That means most of the time you run alone.

The Nike T-shirt is a lot better than adidas. On the bib number, the national flag of your country is also printed. You can buy discount tickets to Stockholm or to/from Helsinki. This is sponsored by Tallink cruise.

"good flat course nearly impeccable organisation" (about: 2012)

11-50 previous marathons | 3 Tallinn Marathons
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

I have done this marathon for the last 3 years and it is very dependent on the weather. This year was very blustery along the coast. The organisation was very good but I did here of a problem at bag collection meaning delays for people, which was not good in the cool windy conditions. The people of tallinn do there best to encourage the runers but there were not many ouside the city but the water stations did a good job making sure people go water or sport drinks. I can reccommend it to any who want a good holiday in a lovely city.

"Run to be the best!" (about: 2010)

The race is good and if possible I prefer if they could give appearance to the top 20 participants as a kind of encouragement to the entire country and invited guests. Otherwise it is good to race in Estonia.

"A very flat course in a lovely city" (about: 2010)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Tallinn Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

The conditions were perfect, with little sun or wind on a cool day. The course was a double loop finishing near the center of the city. The start was well organized with pacers for differing abilities. On the route there was entertainment at each kilometer, though not many spectators outside of the city. The water stations only had cups of water, sports drinks, gels and local black bread. The cups were a drawback but there were plenty of them and the helpers very enthusiastic, making sure everyone got something. The only negative about the course was the short section on the cobbles of the old city; I understand it would be hard to put down mats for the whole section but the finish would have been great on tired legs. On the whole I would recommend this marathon for people wanting a fast time in a lovely city.

"Impeccable organization" (about: 2010)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Tallinn Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

September 2010 was the first edition of SEB Tallinn Marathon. The website was clear and full of information, and the registration was cheap and easy. The hotel packages were very convenient. There were only 1,100 participants, but I foresee a much larger number for the next edition. The race office is open early on race day, which is a plus. The organization before, during and after the race was impeccable. The course is two laps, mostly outside of town. This means that for at least 30K there is almost no public support. The 30K outside of town are as flat as a pancake. On the other hand, the 12K in town follow a moderate to steep uphill course. The water stops are numerous and outstanding, offering anything from power gels to cakes. Two hours after the marathon start a 10K race takes place on the same location, so the race expo and the surrounding areas of the old town are invaded by a happy and colorful crowd of runners. This compensates for the paucity of spectators along the course.

In short, this was the first edition of a marathon that will become an international success, mainly because of the impeccable organization, the fact that the course is quite fast (I did a PB) and that the city of Tallinn is a perfect place for a spending a lovely weekend.
