Hard to enter but fun to run

It was a real challenge to enter this race. Entry was geared toward residents of Brazil (they didn't seem to take US credit cards) and they made entries available in waves, with large numbers of people vying for them. After a lot of hassle getting in, the on-sight logistics were fine. They treated me nicely and the race was well organized. The crowds were large for the first half of the race, although being slowed by the crowds actually helped me because I have a tendency to go out too fast. There was a good amount of food (cookies and gu) on the course. The course was scenic and flat and partly shaded. I enjoyed it and would do it again if it were easier to enter.

Moved the date 3 weeks later!

Disgracefull that they moved the date of marathon 3 weeks ahead so late! People from Europe are planning to come a year before! Not everything is wasted - 3 weeks in South America!

Beautiful scenery, best in Brazil

I ran the half marathon. This is easily the most beautiful marathon in Brazil. Certainly one of the best in the world. You run through the most famous beaches in Rio (Barra, Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo and Flamengo). Organization is improving it each year (I ran the half marathon in 2014). It's notable how they're getting inspiration from great marathons worldwide. Expo is very nice (the sports sponsor Olimpikus created a special shoe edition for this marathon!), there're some entertaining here and there (small orchestra of children, piano players, etc). Crowd support is very little, but honest. Children from Vidigal slum waiting for a hi-5, some cheering on strategic places. I didn't have any problems with water supply, although I heard from some people there were problems. Course is mostly flat except for a bridge on 21k and a 2k-long hill around 28k. It can get really warm, but this year was ok (compared to Rio's average).
