Race Details

A marathon in distance, but an Ultra in effort: The Official 26.2mi Inca Trail Marathon is an extremely challenging and beautiful high altitude trail race in the Andes mountains of Peru with the finish line in front of the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The course for this race has been professionally and accurately measured to 26.2 miles, with runners having to complete more than the typical one way distance of the Inca Trail from KM 82 to the finish line to cover 26.2 miles. We also offer a 18 mile "Incathon" that will allow all runners that may not be experienced enough for the full race to compete on the Inca Trail in a shorter race!

Lifetime Challenge

This is my 38th marathon / ultra. Since I run each event only once, this is also the 38th different marathon course I have run. I have run some hard ones, including tough trail ultras. This is the hardest one. This is a well organized event. We were treat with the best lodging, food, and transportation available. The course is along the well known Inca Trail. Many long segments of steep ascending and descending in high altitude. Although most of the time we are all by ourselves individually along the way, there are many hikers and porters to show their support to us, by saying some heart warm cheerful words, as our bib number gave out our 'identity'. The run is not for everybody. However, if you are trained for tough trail, you would not like to skip this challenge. In 2018, a 75 year old New Zealander has completed the Incathon (16 miles instead of 26.2 miles). Because the Peru government limits the number of persons entering Inca Trail each day and the Inca marathon has chosen to be held in the best traveling dry season in July. The registration to this event would close half year before the event. Normally, it takes 4 days to trek along the Inca Trail. We have done it in one day. ---- If you can run, why hike?

Amazing race, amazing experience

My boyfriend and I and 2 other friends participated in the race last week - it was hard but rewarding. Pre-race information was clear, race organization was orderly and the race itself was so much fun! Huge kudos to the host, guides, porters, participants and spectators! I'd do it again.

A Dream Come True

The views and are unbelievable, but this is much more than a marathon. In order to run this marathon through an outfitter - You have to sign up for a tour, and you will need that time to get acclimated to the elevation. The rest of the tour is a great experience as well but the highlight is the marathon on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. I cannot say enough great things about Erik and his team. I am very pleased we did this.
