Nice race.
A very well organised race starting outside the Mk Dons Arena and finishing inside.
Lots of stewards out on the course to give clear directions and mire spectators on route than I expected. Drinks were just about right although
with the weather being so warm I found I ran out of water well before the next station. The route did get a little monotonous with going under endless roads and with more hills than expected it was tough. All in all though credit to everyone concerned and a very enjoyable day
Brand new course
Well, this was a day when several other marathons were cancelled during the event but, somehow, last-minute diversions and changes were made and it went ahead.
The most awful weather you could possibly get at the end of April but the locals and volunteers still braved the conditions.
Therefore I reckon this event will be so much better next year because everyone pulled together and made it happen.
Some of the park pathways were crowded where we tried to avoid the largest of the puddles, but got soaked through anyway.
Definitely in a forgiving mood as all the best of intentions were in place so I will be returning in 2013 !
This marathon course was not completely flat!!!
This race took 20 months to be organised and I must say Andy Hully - The Race Director 'What a jolly good job'. The race organisers boast a flat course but infact there were too many inclines to run up it!
I thought Milton Keynes Marathon was a wee bit pricey. For an additionional cost you could buy a Milton Keynes Marathon Tee shirt.
Here is the Good News, I love my medal and race number with my forename on it. The user-friendly tag chip, bottled water at the water station, Lucozade drinks, running gels, Bag pipers, the drummers, all of the other entainment. As for the over excitable Marshals and Spectectors who stood in torrential rain and gale force wind shouting words of encouragement made the marathon course much more enjoyable.
Fact, the first Milton Keynes Marathon Keynes 2012 was huge success.
Despite the diabolical weather!
