Race Details

The Newport Rhode Races unfurl like a vivid tapestry against the backdrop of Rhode Island's breathtaking coastline, offering runners an Oceanside marathon experience that truly lives up to its name. Participants weave their way through a course that boasts stunning vistas of the ocean, majestic mansions, and historical sites, making each mile a discovery of beauty and inspiration. The event, celebrated for its picturesque landscapes, also presents a series of rolling hills that add a touch of challenge to the otherwise serene journey, making it a race that is as rewarding as it is demanding. From the early fog-shrouded miles, where the rocky coastline merges with the mist, to the vibrant neighborhoods and quiet streets lined with the opulence of old-money mansions, the marathon serves as a captivating journey through Newport's most scenic locales. Runners find solace in the course's tranquility, with stretches that run along Ocean Drive, offering expansive views of the water that sparkle under the changing light of day. The event, accommodating in its structure, offers an early start option, providing a sense of ease for those concerned about their pace, allowing every participant the chance to fully immerse themselves in the experience without the pressure of time. The organization of the race shines through in the enthusiastic support of volunteers and the well-manned water stations that dot the course, ensuring runners are well-hydrated and motivated throughout their journey. Despite the marathon's scenic allure, it challenges runners with its topography - featuring a collection of significant hills in the latter half that test the resolve and strength of participants. The race's pathway through Salve Regina University and past the famous Newport mansions not only offers a feast for the eyes but also serves as a reminder of the rich tapestry of history and culture that Newport harbors. While the swag may be described as mediocre by some, the true treasure of the Newport Rhode Races lies in the experience - of running alongside the ocean, through neighborhoods echoing with the footsteps of history, and against a backdrop of natural and architectural grandeur. The event's conclusion along the boardwalk, albeit crowded, cannot dim the sense of achievement felt by runners as they cross the finish line, with the ocean breeze as their final companion. The Newport Rhode Races encapsulate the essence of what makes a marathon memorable - not merely the physical endurance required to complete 26.2 miles but the journey through landscapes that stir the soul, the camaraderie among participants, and the personal triumphs celebrated at every step. It stands as a beacon for those seeking not just a race, but an unforgettable adventure through one of New England's most cherished locales.

Beautiful course with mansions and water views

This course runs near the beautiful Newport mansions and much of it is along the coast line with beautiful waterviews. Some of the hills were definitely challenging as this was my first marathon, so I wish I trained for that specifically during my training. Highly recommend!
