The New York City Marathon is one of the richest races in the world and has a commitment to putting on a newsworthy and exciting race. Featured in the race for 2019 are five of the top six male finishers from the 2018 race. The women’s side features Mary Keitany – the women’s-only Marathon world record holder – who will be going for her 5th title at New York after running the second fastest time at New York the year before. Across all of the races there will be 11 previous NYC Marathon champions, including 13 Olympians.

The NYC Marathon typically highlights and supports a deep American field, but 2019 will be weaker in that regard. With the best of America’s marathoners preparing for the Olympic Trials Marathon in February, most are sitting out this late Fall Marathon. However, we are interested to watch the Americans who will be in attendance: Sara Hall (just five weeks after running a PR at the Berlin Marathon), Desiree Linden – the Boston Marathon champion and two-time Olympian; Aliphine Tuliamuk who won the USATF Running Circuit title in 2016 & 2017 and has a 2:26:50 personal best; Kellyn Taylor with her 2:24:29 personal best and ran sub-2:30 at New York in 2017; and Allie Kieffer who ran sub-2:30 in New York in both 2017 and 2018. Among the American men, we will be interested to watch Jared Ward – the 2016 Olympian; Tyler Pennell and Tyler McCandless.
