Beautiful hilly marathon without a big crowd.
This is a well organized small-town marathon. With a limited number of participants, likely due to the time of year, there is not a long wait in the cold at the starting line. Instead, registration is held in the local community center, and participants walk en masse to the starting line. Most of the course snakes through a forested hilly walking area, past some historic areas, carpetted with leaves. The drinks at the aid stations include water, Iso (like Gatorade), and tea, and food includes fruit, cookies, and cereal bars. For a small race, the finisher's medallion is very nice, and the entry fee is very small.

A great smaller marathon!!
This was my second marathon. The other was Berlin in Sept '05. I was truly impressed with the organization and support for this race! With about 800 runners, it was big enough to be "festive" but was not crowded. The course was hilly and challenging, but more than anything beautiful and very enjoyable. Crowds were small but dotted the route and cheered runners on at various points. No chip timing, but the volunteers apparently had no trouble tracking folks. If you are in the area in December '06, I would highly recommend this marathon. It was very rewarding!

Great race with lots of hills.
This race is not for those seeking a PR. Gorgeous scenery and trails. This trail marathon is very hilly. The town does a great job of putting the marathon on.
