The first time was a charm for Mike Fisher in the 31st Dunkin' Donuts Cape Cod Marathon. With balmy 65 degree temperatures at the start of the race at 8:30 a.m., the 24-year-old Brookline resident finished well ahead of the pack yesterday, with a winning time of 2 hours 33 minutes and 12 seconds in his first-ever marathon. In the women's race, 27-year-old Heidi Westerling, of Acworth, N.H., won for the fourth straight year with a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and 43 seconds.

It has been saluted by Runner’s World as one of the ten most scenic marathon courses in America, and for good reason. The Cape Cod Marathon has a starting line at a quintessential New England village green, and runs through rolling farmland and around cranberry bogs. The closing miles past Nobska Light and along Vineyard Sound make the Cape Cod Marathon is a visual treat.
