Mumbai marathon: 18 hospitalised, most due to dehydration

At least 18 runners were hospitalised by the end of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, with most suffering from dehydration. While 17 were subsequently discharged after primary treatment, one runner named Amitava Sen continued to remain admitted at Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital with low sugar levels, dehydration and low blood pressure.

Mumbai Marathon 2016: Gideon Kipketer breaks Kiprop's record to win $ 41,000

Gideon Kipketer from Kenya won the elite men category of 42.195 km in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 35 seconds by breaking the record of Ugandan Kiprop of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 32 seconds which was made in 2013. Seboka Dibaba from Ethopia came second and completed the race in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 20 seconds and Marius Kimutai from Kenya came third at 2 hours, 9 minutes and 20 seconds.

Mumbai Marathon: One plus two on the long distance route.

For an Indian runner, Nitendra Singh Rawat is quite the unorthodox breed when it comes to dealing with marathons. Its the smallest of details he likes to go over when heading into the 42 km race. The most conspicuous detail, and perhaps the most unusual one on Sunday at the Mumbai Marathon, was that he wore sunglasses for this race.
