The Ottawa Marathon and surrounding events brought out over thirty-six thousand participant and even more spectators to this weekends races. David Cheruiyot won the overall men's title for the fourth time.

Asmae Leghzaoui won the women's division of the 2009 Ottawa Marathon despite the nervousness she had about being the defending champion. Her nerves were compounded by the knowledge that four-time winner Lioudmila Kortchaguina was in the race.

David Cheruiyot, Kenya, won his fourth Ottawa Marathon title Sunday with a time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 23 seconds only six seconds ahead of Wegayehu Girma who battled with Cheruiyot in the final one-thousand meters.
